Maldives Premier Bank has now become an authorized bank in the Maldives following approval from the Maldives Monetary Authority. This means that Maldives Premier Bank becomes the ninth licensed bank in the Maldives.

The bank’s licensing comes after the pre-operational authorization granted by the Maldives Monetary Authority on May 19, 2025, for establishing a Tier 1 bank.

A Digital First Commercial Bank in Maldives

Headquartered in Malé, Maldives Premier Bank will operate as a digital first commercial bank in the country. It will serve all customers in the retail, premier, and corporate sectors. These will be primarily focused on sectors such as tourism, trade, infrastructure, and sustainable development.

Although the bank focuses on offering digital banking services, it plans to have some branches within the country too. FinTech Futures has noted that the bank has already launched a job application for its branch manager position.

Banking Project Leader and International Banking Experience

According to information provided by FinTech Futures, Maldives Premier Bank’s CEO and Managing Director is Arah Sadava. She has been at the helm of the new Maldives Premier Bank since February of 2026 when she took over from founder Fazeen Mubarak Ali.

Sadava became involved with the Maldives Premier Bank in late 2025. She has previously worked in international banks in various senior leadership positions. She held the post of CEO for Brunei’s Bank Usahawan BHD. She was also Head of Banking in VisionFund Mongolia and AB Bank Rwanda.

Technology Partners for Digital First Bank

In preparation for launching its operations in the country, Maldives Premier Bank is engaging a number of technology partners. They are providing various banking technologies and infrastructure. Among them are Temenos AG which provides core banking technology, LTM for IT services, and BanknBox for Banking-as-a-Service solutions.

In addition to the aforementioned companies, Maldives Premier Bank has also recruited people for tech-related positions in their company. These involve skills related to Temenos digital channels, Temenos T24 Core Banking System, and AWS cloud services. Head of IT for the bank is Shaikh Abdul Majeed. He was appointed to the position last December.

Maldives Premier Bank’s license increases the total number of licensed financial institutions in the country. As a digital-first commercial bank that serves retail and corporate sectors, Maldives Premier Bank will contribute significantly towards developing a competitive banking environment in the Maldives.
