Jet Bank partners Backbase to power launch of Albania’s first neobank

Dutch banking technology provider Backbase has been selected to power the launch of Albania’s first digital-only bank, Jet Bank.

Jet Bank says it chose Backbase’s AI-powered banking platform “to serve as its digital engagement layer, orchestrating customer interactions across mobile and web channels while integrating with core banking, card processing, and third-party services”.

“The collaboration enabled Jet Bank to move from setup to user acceptance testing in approximately three months, with full operational capability as a licensed digital bank within as little as six months,” the company adds.

Owned by Jet Holding B.V., Amsterdam, Jet Bank was founded in 2025 as a greenfield digital bank. The company is currently going through the licensing stage and recently secured preliminary approval to conduct banking and financial activities in Albania from the country’s central bank in December last year.

Jet Bank is now gearing up for a full launch, writing on LinkedIn that it is currently “preparing the infrastructure, teams, and systems that will enable the first fully digital banking model in Albania”.

“This partnership with Backbase gives us the digital foundation to launch quickly while maintaining the trust and discipline expected from a licensed bank,” adds Jet Bank’s CEO Fatbardha Rino.

Following its launch, Jet Bank says Backbase will carry on as a tech partner to “focus on ongoing optimisation and expansion”. The digital bank adds it plans to offer a personalised, “AI-driven” digital service, with the aim to expand its products “beyond Albania” in the long term.

Jet Bank joins Backbase’s growing portfolio of banking partners, which includes Libyan Islamic BankMalaysia’s Bank Muamalat, and fellow Albania-based institution Tirana Bank.
