Finance and accounting software provider BlackLine has acquired WiseLayer, a New York-based AI company, to advance its goal of creating an AI-driven platform for financial operations. The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
WiseLayer, founded in 2021 by CEO Josh Stein, CTO Vikram Bellapravalu, head of engineering Jack Gillette, and Junaid Abbasi, is developing AI agents focused on automating accounting tasks such as month-end closings and reconciliations.
The company, which secured a $7.2 million funding round in January 2025, currently offers its flagship AI agent, Angela, which specialises in accruals and revenue recognition, and Payton, which specialises in payroll accounting, with four more agents marked as “coming soon” on its website.
BlackLine plans to integrate WiseLayer’s AI agents into its Verity suite, a digital workforce solution designed for corporate finance teams which was launched in September 2025. According to BlackLine, this integration will enable customers to “automate challenging, judgment-based tasks, starting with accruals and payroll accounting”.
Established in 2001, BlackLine offers cloud-based software designed to automate and manage financial close and accounting processes. Its core platform, Studio360, is used by more than 4,400 customers worldwide, including major brands such as Coca-Cola, Zendesk, and British Gas.
