Secure Trust Bank appoints James Appleby as COO

Secure Trust Bank - FinTech News

Secure Trust Bank in the UK has appointed James Appleby as chief operating officer (COO), pending regulatory approval. Appleby is set to take over from Katie Docherty, who has held the role since June 2021.

Appleby will already be familiar with the remit of COO, having previously held the position for Barclaycard between 2005 and 2008, and then for Vanquis Bank between 2008 and 2020.

His C-suite experience also extends to Arrow Global UK, where he served as CEO, and the UK branch of Swedish credit management company Intrum, which Appleby most recently led as managing director since June 2023.

Appleby will now work to manage operations at a bank which specialises in savings accounts and business finance. Secure Trust Bank posted a 36.3% increase in adjusted profit before tax to £23.3 million in the six months up to 30 June.

This latest appointment coincides with major leadership overhauls currently taking place at Secure Trust Bank. Ian Corfield, a former HM Treasury adviser, officially succeeded David McCreadie as group CEO on 16 August, while Richard Foote was promoted to COO of the Secure Trust Bank Commercial Finance unit in April.
