South African digital bank TymeBank has appointed its chief commercial officer (CCO), Cheslyn Jacobs, as its new CEO, effective 1 January 2026.

Jacobs will succeed Karl Westvig, who has served as CEO for just over a year and will move to an advisory role after a three-month transition period. Westvig joined TymeBank in 2023 following his role as head of SME funding platform Retail Capital, which TymeBank acquired in December 2022.

Jacobs has 13 years of experience within Tyme Group. He first joined the group as sales and distribution manager in 2012 and became a founding team member of TymeBank in 2015. He was promoted to the CCO position in 2022. Prior to Tyme, Jacobs spent over four years at Standard Bank and also previously worked at Deloitte.

A primary focus for Jacobs will be continuing the bank’s growth trajectory as well as preparing the company for a potential New York Stock Exchange listing, which co-founder Coenraad Jonker indicated could occur by 2028

TymeBank, launched in 2019 and serving over 11 million customers, operates under Tyme Group, which also runs GoTyme Bank in the Philippines. The group reached unicorn status last year through a $250 million Series D funding round led by Brazilian digital bank Nubank, which invested $150 million and valued Tyme at $1.5 billion.
