TD Bank hires HSBC exec Taylan Turan as new COO

Canada’s TD Bank Group has appointed industry veteran Taylan Turan as senior executive vice president (SEVP) and chief operating officer (COO), effective 29 September.

In a statement on the hire, TD Bank says its new COO will work to “reduce complexity to speed-up execution, re-engineer key operations to enhance efficiency, and establish the programs and strategies needed to elevate the client experience and accelerate growth”.

Turan will step into the role previously held by Raymond Chun, who served as COO from November 2024 until his promotion to group president and CEO in February this year. He joins TD Bank following a 16-year career at HSBC, during which time he served as global CEO of retail banking, and more recently, as head of integration, international wealth and premier banking. Prior to HSBC, Turan also held leadership roles at Citi and Barclays

Alongside Turan, TD Bank also announced corporate lawyer Simon Fish will join TD as SEVP and general counsel, while career TD-banker Paul Whitehead has been named EVP, global head of client and colleague experience and marketing.

Other movers include Christine Morris, who has informed the group of her decision to retire as SEVP of transformation, enablement and customer experience at the end of this year, and will transfer her responsibilities to Turan and Whitehead over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, SEVP and general counsel Jane Langford has also announced her departure from the bank. Langford has worked for the group for over 13 years, and will now move into the role of special advisor until the end of the year before pursuing “her next professional challenge beyond TD”, the bank says.
