Australia’s CommBank partners OpenAI to advance GenAI adoption

CommBank - fintech news

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) says it has inked a multi-year partnership with OpenAI with the aim to “bring advanced AI to customers and employees”.

Through the partnership, CommBank will progressively roll out access to OpenAI’s generative AI tools, including ChatGPT Enterprise, to its 52,000-strong workforce.

CommBank adds it is also investing in training and upskilling programmes to “increase AI capability and embed the responsible use of AI across its workforce”.

The partnership extends beyond tool implementation, with engineering teams from both organisations set to collaborate to develop generative AI solutions that enhance fraud detection capabilities and deliver more personalised services to CommBank’s 17 million customers.

“To be globally competitive, Australia must embrace this new era of rapid technological change,” states Matt Comyn, CEO of CommBank.

Comyn adds that the bank’s strategic partnership with OpenAI will enable it to explore “how AI can enhance customer experiences, better protect our customers, and unlock new opportunities for Australian businesses”.

The partnership follows CommBank’s recent move as one of the first Australian banks to adopt the name-matching service Confirmation of Payee, alongside National Australia Bank and ANZ.
