Standard Chartered veteran Sham Arora named Tech Mahindra CTO

Indian fintech heavyweight Tech Mahindra has appointed former Standard Chartered executive Sham Arora as its new chief technology officer (CTO), effective immediately.

Based in Singapore, Arora joins Tech Mahindra after more than two decades at Standard Chartered, where he most recently served as chief information officer (CIO) and global head of enterprise technology.

In this role, which he held since January 2021, he oversaw the bank’s entire tech verticals, including data centres, public cloud initiatives, API gateways, and IT services and operations.

He started working at Standard Chartered in 2003 as CIO for transaction banking, payments, clearing and core bank technology. Prior to this, Arora worked across senior roles at Tata Energy Research Institute, Stock Holding Corporation, and Citibank.

His appointment comes amid recent leadership changes at Standard Chartered, including Zarin Daruwala, the bank’s CEO for India and South Asia, who retired on 1 April, with PD Singh named as her successor.
