Mike Regnier to step down as Santander UK CEO by Q1 2026

Mike Regnier has confirmed his intention to step down as CEO of Santander UK by the end of Q1 2026, concluding a tenure that began in March 2022.

On his departure, Regnier says: “It had been my intention to move on after 4-5 years with Santander as I have other interests I would like to pursue.”

“Given that the integration of TSB will take considerably longer than this, I have suggested to the board that now would be a good time to find a successor who can see this critical project through to its completion and beyond,” he adds.

Santander UK agreed to acquire TSB from Banco Sabadell for £2.65 billion in July 2024. The deal is expected to close in Q1 2026, pending shareholder approval, and is set to make Santander UK the country’s third-largest by market share, with nearly 28 million customers.

“Judging the right moment to move on is very important to ensure leadership stability through a period of intense change and opportunity,” Regnier continues. “The process to find my successor is underway and I look forward to welcoming and handing over to them in due course so the momentum can continue.”

Regnier assumed the leadership role at Santander UK three years ago, joining from Yorkshire Building Society, where he served as CEO between 2017 to 2021. Prior to this, he worked a variety of senior roles across Visa, TSB, and Building Societies Association.

The leadership transition occurs alongside broader changes in Santander UK’s senior management. Earlier this year, the bank initiated a search for William Vereker’s replacement as chairman, with Vereker set to conclude his five-year tenure in the role “during the course of 2025”.
