Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) has appointed Pedro Sousa Cardoso as chief digital officer (CDO), effective immediately, as the $177 billion-asset bank continues to expand its digital leadership team.
Cardoso joins ADCB from direct competitor Emirates NBD, where he served as CDO since October 2021, overseeing digital transformation across the group’s retail banking and wealth management divisions. There, he notably headed Emirates NBD’s digital banking subsidiary Liv, which initially launched in 2017 as a means of targeting millennial and Gen Z banking customers across the Middle East. Prior to his recent role, Cardoso also held various positions at Emirates NBD from 2011 to 2017.
Cardoso brings extensive international experience, having previously worked at Portuguese digital bank Banco Best, Denmark’s Saxo Bank, and in various digital leadership roles at Standard Chartered across multiple markets.
Cardoso stands as the second Standard Chartered veteran to be hired by ADCB in recent weeks. In late September, ADCB unveiled Shameek Kundu as chief AI officer, with a specific focus on leading its Meedaf initiative.
Meedaf, which launched in April 2025, operates as an AI-powered digital platform serving GCC financial institutions. The platform automates collections processes, handles risk assessments, manages regulatory compliance, and integrates with existing banking systems through APIs.
