UniCredit partners Wise to power international money transfers

Debuting on 21 July, UniCredit’s Italian customers will be able to make euro-to-foreign currency transfers via the bank’s mobile app.

Italian banking group UniCredit has introduced a new international payment service for its over 15 million retail customers in partnership with London-based global money transfer specialist Wise.

The solution, powered by Wise Platform, initially launches in Italy on 21 July 2025 and will enable customers to make international transfers from euros into several foreign currencies through the UniCredit mobile banking app.

The bank says its new system offers the “same speed and simplicity as domestic payments” for transfers to countries including the UK, India, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with more currencies in the pipeline. The banking group has also revealed plans to “extend availability to additional countries in the near future”.

According to UniCredit, this service bypasses typically slower traditional correspondent banking networks by utilising Wise’s direct connections to local payment infrastructures, resulting in faster international transfers.

“Our mission is to transform payments into an agile, borderless experience, capable of moving with the speed and transparency of a fintech”, comments Raphael Barisaac, global head of payments and cash management at UniCredit.

The news comes hot on the heels of UniCredit’s 10-year partnership with Google Cloud signed in May to modernise its technology and initiate a large-scale migration to the cloud.
